There is a new game and a new name in coffee in Calgary, the Chiasso Coffee Company.  They have a brand new location at 17th Avenue and 8th Street SW, it is just barely two weeks old.  The name is Italian and translated apparently means chaos, commotion, racket.  However, chaos is the furthest thing from your mind when you step into this oasis just off that busy intersection.  They have done a great job on the finishes, including hardwood floors, granite counter tops and a mix of comfortable seating options.  The place is spotless and refreshing after some of the other coffee house options in the area.

According to the website, and Nutmeg has confirmed by a couple visits, the staff are highly trained and really get that when you pay good money for a latte it would be preferable if it was good and even better if it was excellent.  The coffee is excellent.   The service if friendly and very efficient.  Both Nutmeg and Ginger have tried the Spanish Lattes – two thumbs up.

The food is not prepared on site.  It is however, beautifully displayed and clearly fresh.  We will be back to try the “crack of dawn breakfast wrap”, the “almost famous breakfast sandwich” or the highly decadent white chocolate banana bread.

The best part of all is free parking an a customer entrance in the back.  For now they have two locations, 17th Avenue and Jamieson Place.  They have two others in the works in Ramsay and Centennial Place.  Nutmeg’s view is watch these guys they are going to give Caffe Artigiano a hard time.  Go and check it out!
